The Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District is a member of the GEMS-Net consortium, officially known as the Guiding Education in Math and Science Network. It is a partnership among the University of Rhode Island’s School of Education, scientists and engineers, and public school districts. GEMS-Net supports STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) teaching and learning for Kindergarten through Grade Eight. Through our partnership with the GEMS-Net consortium, school districts receive ongoing professional development for all teachers, curricula recommendations that align with the Common Core State Standards and

Next Generation Science Standards, and leadership development for teachers and principals. Additionally, the GEMS-Net staff utilizes highly innovative strategies to prepare pre-service elementary and middle school teachers to be leaders in STEM education. Educational research is balanced with the current school policy in the practical context of the classroom.

In 2015/2016, students in grades K-8 began experiencing 3 new science kits. (For a complete list of science kits by grade level, follow the link below.) The FOSS kits provide a sequence of hands-on experiences that lead students to an in-depth understanding and provide multiple exposures to science core ideas and practices. In addition, the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics are embedded through via natural connections in science learning.eaders in STEM education. Educational research is balanced with the current school policy in the practical context of the classroom.
